I'm a Canadian artist originally from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, now based in London, UK.
Pleasant Street Studio takes its name from the street I grew up on and spent over half of my life. Many of my earliest works and ideas about art were formed while painting in my childhood bedroom overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
I work primarily in oils and acrylics, while also exploring charcoal, natural pigments, digital illustration, and graphic media. Artists I admire range from Paul Gauguin and Henri Matisse to Maud Lewis and Kerry James Marshall.
Over the years, I have developed my artistic practice in studio spaces in Montreal, Halifax, and Glasgow, while pursuing independent creative projects and research in Kenya, Zanzibar, Haiti, and La Gomera.
I am drawn to the contradictions of modern life and the gap between collective ideals and lived reality. Through humour, irony, and observation, I examine the tensions, absurdities, and complexities that arise in that space.
I am currently developing a body of work titled The Ear Favours No Particular Point of View, inspired by the writings of Marshall McLuhan. Using music lyrics and poetry as entry points into broader conversations, the series examines society, culture, media, and contemporary life as I see it today.
